WHO IS GEM CITY ROLLER DERBY?
Gem City Roller Derby is a women's flat track roller derby team based in Dayton, Ohio. GCRD is a skater-owned and operated non-profit that was founded in Dayton in 2006. As a registered 501c3 non-profit organization, all funds raised go directly toward supporting the league and the local community.
Dayton’s roller derby league is one of the top-ranked teams in the world.
Gem City Roller Derby (GCRD) had a remarkable 2022 season with their charter team, Purple Reign, ending the year with a perfect season after winning every game they played. The international Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) released new rankings January 2023 and Gem City Roller Derby, Purple Reign, was listed at 11th out of 104 ranked teams for the North America Northeast Region. GCRD’s B-league team, Violet Femmes, also ended strong by ranking 82nd.
According to the website there are over 400 WFTDA total Member Leagues in the world that are located on 6 continents.
Dayton’s number of league members fluctuates, but averages out around 60 skaters and 80 total members, including coaches, officials, and volunteers.
Gem City plays nearly year-round, fielding its competitive travel teams (Purple Reign and Violet Femmes). Check out our upcoming events to attend a bout and see us play in person!

Statement
Gem City Roller Derby (GCRD) is a local athletic league. We strive to improve individual athleticism, self-discipline, and character while promoting team unity. Our program provides structured training, instruction, and competition, preparing our members to represent Dayton on a international level. We additionally develop our members' leadership and trade skills. We are dedicated to providing community outreach through events, activities, and charity sponsorship.
